Compare Birmingham hotels with parking by whether the car park is on-site, what we could confirm about charges, and which trips it actually suits.

Parking can change the real cost of a Birmingham hotel by tens of pounds a night, and a hotel with parking is not automatically a hotel that is easy to arrive at. The useful details are whether the car park belongs to the hotel or is a public garage nearby, whether you can come and go, and what it costs on top of the room.

Central Birmingham has very little hotel parking, because the land is not there. The properties with their own car parks sit mostly on the Hagley Road corridor, around the NEC and airport, and on the outer ring. That is the real trade-off on this page: a shorter walk to the centre usually means a public garage, and a private car park usually means a longer walk or a tram ride.

What counts as parking here

We separate three situations, because booking sites often do not.

  • Own car park. The hotel controls the spaces. You park once and walk to the door. This is the arrangement worth paying for.
  • Nearby public garage. The hotel points you at a multi-storey and may or may not discount it. Add the walk from the garage to every arrival and departure, especially with luggage.
  • No parking. Common in the streets immediately around New Street and the Bullring. Workable, but plan the car separately.

Where the column says the arrangement is drawn from guest reports rather than an operator source, treat it as a strong indication and confirm the current terms when you book. Parking charges are the detail hotels change most often, and we would rather show you the uncertainty than invent a figure.

Editorial picks

Which of these to choose

Each pick names the situation it suits. A hotel that is right for one trip is usually wrong for another.

Distances are straight-line, calculated from each property's own coordinates. Walking times are derived from those distances with an allowance for street routing, so treat them as indicative for comparing hotels against each other rather than as measured route times.

Thumbnails show the nearest landmark or the area each property sits in, never the property itself. We hold no licensed photograph of these hotels and we do not generate one.

A dash means we could not establish that detail, not that the answer is no. We leave it open rather than guess.

Common questions

Which Birmingham hotels have their own car park?

The table above lists every property in our selection where we could establish a parking arrangement, with the on-site cases marked. The concentration is along Hagley Road, around the NEC and airport, and on the outer ring rather than in the central core.

Is hotel parking in Birmingham free?

Occasionally, mostly at the outer and airport properties. In the city centre it is almost always charged, and often at close to public garage rates. Where a hotel is reported as free we say so and name the source; where we could not confirm it, we leave it blank rather than guess.

Is it cheaper to park at the hotel or in a public car park?

For one night in the centre they are often similar, and the hotel wins on convenience. For several nights, or when the hotel charges a flat nightly rate against a public garage's 24 hour rate, the difference can be significant in either direction. Compare both for your dates.

Are there height restrictions in city-centre hotel car parks?

Underground and multi-storey car parks in central Birmingham commonly have height limits that rule out vans and some roof boxes. We do not have a confirmed limit for every property, so if you are driving anything tall, ask the hotel for the figure before booking.

Which hotels suit an arena or NEC event by car?

Look for an own car park within walking distance of the venue, so the car stays put for the evening. On Broad Street that combination exists for the arena; around the NEC most hotels are built for car arrival in the first place.
