Shortest walk
Leonardo Royal Hotel Birmingham
Birmingham city centre
around 1 minutes on foot to Broad Street
Best for: the shortest walk to the venue and a 15 minute walk into the centre
Hotels near
Hotels on and around Broad Street compared on distance to the arena and the ICC, parking and evening noise, with quieter alternatives a street back.
Broad Street is Birmingham's main nightlife corridor and its main venue corridor at the same time. Utilita Arena, the ICC and Symphony Hall all sit at or just off its length, which is why so many hotels are here and why the street divides opinion so sharply.
The useful distinction is not whether a hotel is on Broad Street, but where on it, and whether it faces the street at all. The comparison below covers the whole corridor from Centenary Square to Five Ways, with distances to the arena and the ICC, so you can weigh the short walk against the Saturday night.

Distances are straight-line, calculated from each property's own coordinates. Walking times are derived from those distances with an allowance for street routing, so treat them as indicative for comparing hotels against each other rather than as measured route times.
Thumbnails show the nearest landmark or the area each property sits in, never the property itself. We hold no licensed photograph of these hotels and we do not generate one.

Where they are
Broad StreetHotels on this pageRailway stations
Roads, canals, parks and stations are drawn from OpenStreetMap. Hotels are plotted from their own coordinates.
Broad Street runs roughly west from Centenary Square, past Brindleyplace and the canal basin, out to the Five Ways roundabout where it becomes Hagley Road. West Midlands Metro trams run its length, with stops at Library (Centenary Square), Brindleyplace, Five Ways and Edgbaston Village. That tram is the practical reason a hotel at the Hagley Road end still works for a city-centre evening.
The character changes as you go. The Centenary Square end is civic and convention-facing, with the library, the ICC and Symphony Hall. The middle is the bar and restaurant stretch. Towards Five Ways it thins out into offices and larger hotels with car parks.
Broad Street hotels split fairly cleanly. The larger properties towards the Five Ways end tend to have their own car parks, because they were built with the space. The ones in the middle of the strip generally do not, and use Brindleyplace or other public garages instead.
If you are driving and attending an arena event, the combination worth looking for is a hotel car park within walking distance of the venue, so the car stays put all evening. That is easier here than anywhere else in Birmingham.
Weekend late-night activity is a genuine feature of the middle stretch, and it is the most common complaint about hotels that face directly onto it. Hotels set back from the street, on the Centenary Square end, or towards Five Ways are noticeably less exposed. If quiet is the priority, the Jewellery Quarter or Edgbaston are better starting points.
The arena sits just off the canal side near Brindleyplace, so the hotels in the middle and western part of the strip are closest. The distance column above gives the order.
Yes. West Midlands Metro runs the length of Broad Street, with stops at Library (Centenary Square), Brindleyplace, Five Ways and Edgbaston Village. It connects through to Grand Central at New Street.
It is one of the better ones. The arena, the ICC, Symphony Hall and Brindleyplace are all walkable, the tram covers the length of the street, and New Street is a flat walk of roughly 15 minutes from the middle of the strip.
Look at the hotels around Centenary Square and the Jewellery Quarter side, or at Edgbaston along Hagley Road with the tram for the last stretch. Both keep venue access without putting your window over the bars.
