Birmingham area
Edgbaston and the Hagley Road corridor compared: more parking, lower prices than the centre, and a tram line back into town.
Hagley Road is Birmingham's hotel corridor in the literal sense: a long arterial road running west from Five Ways, lined with the larger properties that could not fit in the centre. Edgbaston around it is greener and more residential, with the cricket ground, the university and the QE hospital to the south.
The reason to stay here is space. Hotels on this corridor generally have their own car parks, rooms are often larger, and typical nightly prices sit below the city centre. The reason not to is that you are a mile or two out, so every evening in town involves a tram, a bus or a walk of twenty minutes and up.

The trade-off
You gain parking, space and a lower typical rate. You give up the walk-everywhere convenience of the centre, and you need to think about how you get back after an evening out.

Editorial picks
Each pick names the situation it suits. A hotel that is right for one trip is usually wrong for another.

Distances are straight-line, calculated from each property's own coordinates. Walking times are derived from those distances with an allowance for street routing, so treat them as indicative for comparing hotels against each other rather than as measured route times.
Thumbnails show the nearest landmark or the area each property sits in, never the property itself. We hold no licensed photograph of these hotels and we do not generate one.
A dash means we could not establish that detail, not that the answer is no. We leave it open rather than guess.
Practical details checked: September 2026
West Midlands Metro runs along Broad Street to Five Ways and terminates at Edgbaston Village on Hagley Road, which puts the eastern end of the corridor on a direct tram into the centre and Grand Central. Five Ways railway station sits at the same end.
Further west along Hagley Road you are into bus territory or a longer walk. That is the practical dividing line on this corridor: hotels near the Five Ways end behave almost like city-centre hotels, and hotels a mile out do not.
For a shorter walk into town at a similar price, the Jewellery Quarter is worth comparing. For the arena specifically, the Broad Street hotels remove the journey altogether at a higher rate.
It is the strongest choice in the city if you are driving, because this is where the hotel car parks are and rates typically sit below the centre. It is a weaker choice if you want to walk out of the hotel into the city.
The Five Ways end is roughly a mile from Centenary Square and a walk of around twenty minutes, or a few stops on the tram. Further west along the road that grows quickly, so the distance from the tram matters more than the postcode.
Yes. West Midlands Metro terminates at Edgbaston Village on Hagley Road and runs down Broad Street through the centre to Grand Central at New Street.
The southern part of Edgbaston is close to the QE and the university, though hotel stock right beside the hospital is thin. Our hospital page compares the realistic options for both sites.
Some do and it is one of the main reasons to stay here, but it is not universal and free is not the same as unrestricted. The parking column on each hotel page shows what we could establish.
