Hotels near
Every hotel in our Birmingham selection ranked by distance from New Street Station, with parking, price band and the practical detail that matters with luggage.
Arriving by train changes what a good location means. The question is not which hotel is central, because most of them are. It is how far you drag a suitcase, which exit you come out of, and whether the hotel sits on the side of the centre you actually need the next morning.
New Street sits under Grand Central, with exits onto Stephenson Street, Navigation Street and the Bullring side. The hotels below are ordered by straight-line distance from the station, and the shortest few are genuinely a few minutes with a bag. Beyond about 15 minutes the calculation changes: at that point a hotel closer to your reason for visiting usually beats a hotel closer to the platform.
Editorial picks
Each pick names the situation it suits. A hotel that is right for one trip is usually wrong for another.

Distances are straight-line, calculated from each property's own coordinates. Walking times are derived from those distances with an allowance for street routing, so treat them as indicative for comparing hotels against each other rather than as measured route times.
Thumbnails show the nearest landmark or the area each property sits in, never the property itself. We hold no licensed photograph of these hotels and we do not generate one.

Where they are
New StreetHotels on this pageRailway stations
Roads, canals, parks and stations are drawn from OpenStreetMap. Hotels are plotted from their own coordinates.
Which exit you use is worth thinking about for a couple of minutes before you book. The Stephenson Street and Navigation Street exits put you on the western side, facing the Broad Street direction. The Grand Central and Bullring exits put you on the eastern side, towards the Rotunda, Moor Street and Digbeth. A hotel that is 400 metres away on the wrong side of the station is not meaningfully closer than one 600 metres away on the right side.
Birmingham has two other central stations that matter here. Moor Street is a short walk east and handles Chiltern services to London Marylebone. Snow Hill is north of the centre, towards the Jewellery Quarter. If your itinerary uses one of those rather than New Street, the shortest walk on this page may not be your shortest walk.
The hotels closest to New Street are the ones least likely to have their own car park, because the land does not exist. Several use nearby multi-storey garages instead, which is workable but adds a walk at both ends of the stay.
If you are driving to Birmingham and only using the station on one leg of the trip, it is usually worth comparing a hotel slightly further out with genuine on-site parking against a central hotel plus a public car park for two or three nights.
The table above is sorted by straight-line distance, so the top row is the nearest in our selection. The first several entries are all within a few minutes on foot, and the difference between them matters less than which station exit they sit near.
For the hotels at the top of the table, yes, comfortably. The centre is flat and the pavements are wide. Further down the list you are into 15 minutes or more, which is fine unencumbered and less pleasant with a large case.
It depends on your operator. New Street handles Avanti, CrossCountry and West Midlands services; Moor Street handles Chiltern to London Marylebone. They are only a few minutes apart on foot, so a hotel near one is usually acceptable for the other, but check which one your ticket uses before you optimise for the wrong platform.
The station itself is below ground level, so train noise is not usually the issue. The relevant factor is street activity, which is higher on the Broad Street and Hurst Street sides than on the quieter blocks north of Colmore Row.
Some do, many do not, and several use a nearby public garage rather than their own car park. The parking column above shows what we could establish for each property, and the individual hotel pages carry the detail.
