Hotels near
No hotel in our Birmingham selection is within walking distance of Villa Park. Here is what is actually closest, and how the rail and shuttle options compare.
Start with the finding that matters: nothing in our Birmingham selection is within walking distance of Villa Park. The nearest property is around two kilometres away in a straight line, and Aston is a residential area rather than a hotel district. Any page that presents a list of hotels as being at the stadium is stretching the word.
What that means in practice is that a Villa Park trip is a city-centre stay plus a short journey, and the journey is the part worth getting right. The comparison below shows what is genuinely closest alongside the central hotels most people end up choosing.
Editorial picks
Each pick names the situation it suits. A hotel that is right for one trip is usually wrong for another.

Distances are straight-line, calculated from each property's own coordinates. Walking times are derived from those distances with an allowance for street routing, so treat them as indicative for comparing hotels against each other rather than as measured route times.
Thumbnails show the nearest landmark or the area each property sits in, never the property itself. We hold no licensed photograph of these hotels and we do not generate one.

Roads, canals, parks and stations are drawn from OpenStreetMap. Hotels are plotted from their own coordinates.
Two stations serve the ground. Witton is around a five minute walk from the stadium and roughly ten minutes by train from New Street. Aston is about a fifteen minute walk from the ground but sits on two lines, so services to the centre are more frequent, which matters more on the way back than on the way there.
On home matchdays the AV82 shuttle runs direct from Dudley Street outside New Street station, starting three hours before kick-off. There is also a regular bus from the Snow Hill area towards Witton Road. Between them, a city-centre hotel is a straightforward base, which is why we would not pay a premium for proximity here.
Residential parking restrictions around the ground apply on matchdays and the approach roads congest badly before and after kick-off. Driving to the stadium itself is the least appealing option of the three.
The sensible pattern is a hotel with its own car park, the car left there for the day, and the train or shuttle in each direction. That is available at several city-centre and outer hotels and removes the matchday traffic from the plan entirely.
Not in our selection. The nearest property is around two kilometres away in a straight line, and Aston has very little hotel stock. Treat Villa Park as a short journey from a city-centre base rather than a walkable venue.
Witton, at around a five minute walk from the ground and roughly ten minutes by train from New Street. Aston is about fifteen minutes on foot but has more frequent services into the centre, which helps after the final whistle.
Yes. The AV82 runs direct from Dudley Street outside New Street station on home matchdays, starting three hours before kick-off. Check the current fare and timings with the operator before you travel.
It is the least attractive of the options. Residential restrictions apply around the ground on matchdays and the approach roads congest heavily. Parking at your hotel and taking the train or shuttle avoids both.
The city centre, because the rail and shuttle links are built around it and the hotel choice is far wider. Prioritise a hotel near New Street rather than one that merely looks closer to Aston on a map.
