Hotels near
Practical hotel options near Birmingham Children's Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, compared on distance, parking and longer stay suitability.
People book this page under pressure, often at short notice and often for longer than they expected. The useful thing a hotel page can do here is be precise about distance, parking and the practical difference between the two hospital sites, and leave the reassurance to someone better placed to give it.
The two hospitals are not in the same place. Birmingham Children's Hospital is on Steelhouse Lane in the city centre, surrounded by hotels. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is in Edgbaston beside the university, roughly three miles south-west, with very little hotel stock nearby. The table below is ordered by distance from the Children's Hospital, with the distance to the QE shown alongside so you can see which properties work for either.

Distances are straight-line, calculated from each property's own coordinates. Walking times are derived from those distances with an allowance for street routing, so treat them as indicative for comparing hotels against each other rather than as measured route times.
Thumbnails show the nearest landmark or the area each property sits in, never the property itself. We hold no licensed photograph of these hotels and we do not generate one.

For the Children's Hospital, the city centre is the answer. The site is a short walk from the Snow Hill and Colmore Row area, and most central hotels are within ten to fifteen minutes on foot.
For the QE, the practical route from a city-centre hotel is the Cross-City Line from New Street to University station, which is around a five minute walk from the hospital. That train is frequent and direct, and it is usually more reliable than driving across the city twice a day.
If you are visiting the QE daily for a week or more, the small number of Edgbaston properties near the hospital are worth checking first, and a self-catering aparthotel is often more practical than a hotel room.
Hospital car parks are charged and come under pressure at visiting times. For anything beyond a day or two, a hotel with its own parking and a train or short drive is generally less stressful and less expensive than paying hospital rates twice a day.
For longer stays, look at the aparthotels and serviced apartments in the selection. A kitchen and a laundry change the economics of a fortnight considerably, and both hospitals are reachable from the central cluster.
The hospital is on Steelhouse Lane in the city centre, so a large number of central hotels are within a ten to fifteen minute walk. The table above ranks our selection by distance from that site.
No. They are around three miles apart. The Children's Hospital is in the city centre; the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is in Edgbaston next to the university. A hotel that is convenient for one is not automatically convenient for the other, which is why both distances are shown.
From a city-centre hotel, the Cross-City Line from New Street to University station is direct and frequent, and the hospital is around a five minute walk from the platform. That is usually easier than driving and paying hospital parking.
Aparthotels and serviced apartments, because a kitchen and laundry make a long stay far more manageable and usually cheaper per night than a hotel room. Our stay types section covers the options in the central cluster.
Both sites have visitor parking and both charge for it. Availability is tightest at visiting times. For repeated visits, parking at your hotel and travelling in is normally the calmer arrangement, and for the QE the train avoids the question entirely.
